Praying at Daibutsu of Kamakura

I’m out of Tokyo and now in the town of Kamakura about a 2 hour train ride from the city. I’m teaching raw food here as well.

On Christmas day I will be wowing students with a wealth of knowledge. This afternoon though is slotted for some sight-seeing with two students which I had met in Los Angeles back in August.

They are so excited to show me their town… and honestly, it feels great to be out of the big city.

Kamakura is a smaller coastal town known for its big buddha and for its surfing. It kind of reminds me of the Japanese version of Santa Monica or Santa Cruz… but a lot more crowded.

We start the day with a yummy raw lunch at Chica’s home (best raw lasagna I’ve ever had) then darted off to the see buddha and get some good loving prayers in.

Fantastic Raw Lasagna

I had seen the top of his head while driving to Chica’s house – he’s kind of hard to miss.

He was once all gold, but since the temple which used to house him was destroyed, he has taken on this gorgeous blue look – the ocean air helps.

I felt so humble in his presence. What a gorgeous specimen. I could have stared at him for hours.
